One of the worst things an athlete can do before a big game is to go thirsty. Especially in the early minutes, being totally hydrated is a key to increasing mobility and enhancing concentration. It's important to be serious about the process and take in fluids well before thirst kicks in.

Of course the easiest way to hydrate is with water, but there are other options to make sure your body is ready at tip-off. Food can play a role, too, and nutritional choices have an effect on overall hydration.
