One of the best strength coaches in the nation has been recognized for being the best. Louisiana State University strength and conditioning coordinator Tommy Moffitt, now in his 12th year with the Tigers, won the Strength Performance Network’s first-ever College Coach’s Choice Award. The Strength Performance Network is a social networking site for strength coaches.
Moffitt has been on the LSU football staff for two national championship seasons—so far. On Sept. 2, the Tigers kicked off their 2011 schedule with a 40-27 win against the Oregon Ducks in the Cowboys Classic, played at Cowboys Stadium. The Tigers are ranked #2 in the latest AP poll.
“We wanted to create an award that enabled strength and conditioning professionals to recognize one of their own for her or his contributions to the strength and conditioning profession,” said Brian Harris, co-founder of Strength Performance Network. “By allowing strength coaches to both nominate and ultimately vote for the winner of the College Coach’s Choice Award, I believe we’ve achieved that objective.”
The other four finalists were Don Sommer from Texas Christian University, Ike Hammerly from William Penn University, Kaz Kazadi from Baylor University and Andrea Hudy from the University of Kansas. (For background information, go to our previous post.)
“Congratulations to Coach Moffitt and LSU,” says Strong. “He represents all that is good about the strength and conditioning profession.”
