Tuesday, Oct. 4, is getting close. That's when NBA 2K12 finally hits stores. Meantime, basketball aficionados can grab an early look at 2K12 by downloading the demo to an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.
The demo is a stripped down version. Your only option is to take on the Miami Heat with the NBA champion Dallas Mavericks for four minutes. But within those four minutes, you'll get a glimpse of the enhanced gameplay that 2K Sports hopes will top their critically-acclaimed NBA 2K11.
One of the coolest additions is the fast break system. More than likely, you'll steal the ball with Jason Kidd and find Dirk Nowitzki hustling down the court for an easy two points. The animations are executed beautifully. You'll think you're watching an NBA Finals rematch as opposed to controlling the fast break yourself!
Another area where NBA 2K12 continues to excel—even in the demo—is its TV-style presentation. All of the pre-game effects are authentic. Even close-ups of the players before the jump ball look eerily real.
Although the demo is hardly an in-depth representation of what you'll see on Oct. 4, it's worth the free download. At least it will give you a taste of what's forthcoming next week.
