The Steve Nash Dribbling Drill
If you’re looking for a multi-functional drill to improve ball handling, passing and finishing, you can’t find a better one than Steve Nash’s Two-Ball Dribble Series. It will help your dribbling skills approach Nash’s level of facility.
Perfect for point guards, the drill requires two basketballs, a partner and either cones or chairs.
The Two-Ball Dribble Series
Set up four or five cones (or chairs) evenly spaced around the middle of the court. Start at the opposite free throw line with two balls while your partner sets up on the wing by the the far basket.
Dribble between the cones with your eyes up. Imagine a defender is guarding you while you alternate hands, perform crossovers and dribble behind your back to refine your ball handling skills. Once you pass the last chair, use your outside hand to throw either a bounce pass or a chest pass to your partner. After you pass one of the balls, perform the move of your choice with the other and shoot a layup. Sprint to the top of the key, receive a pass from your partner and take a three-point shot.
Execute the Two-Ball Dribble Series three or four times before switching with your partner. If you’re not winded at the end of the set, amp the intensity higher. Make this drill competitive by tracking your makes on the layups and jump shots.
