How to Become a Better Basketball Player This Summer

August 9, 2012

Summer Basketball

Summer is the perfect time to improve your basketball game. You have the time and energy to dedicate to skill development and workouts. If you succumb to temptation and become a couch potato, you will be surprised by how quickly you will fall behind your competition. Follow these guidelines to get the most out of your summer.

Focus on Weaknesses

When Michael Jordan entered the NBA, people criticized him for his shooting and consistency. He spent the off-season working on his shot and turned it into a strength, becoming one of the best clutch shooters of all time.

The first thing you need to do is identify your weaknesses. If you are a sketchy ball handler, focus on dribbling drills. If you're a poor shooter, you must spend time performing shooting drills.

Always Give 100 Percent

Remember: other players out there are competing for the same scholarship or spot on a team roster. So make sure you are doing everything you can to separate yourself. Don't go play pick-up every day or spend an hour putting up half-speed catch and shoot shots. Push yourself and develop your game with every resource you have.

Strength Training

You can only get so good by practicing on the court. To complete your game, you need to spend time in the weight room. Summer is the perfect time to train, since your schedule isn't filled with practices and games. You should be in the weight room at least two or three times per week, focusing on workouts that will improve your athleticism.

Build muscle and develop strength this summer with a custom basketball workout program.
