The Five Best Speeches in Sports Movie History

August 13, 2012

Any Given Sunday

There's something about a big speech in a sports movie. The good ones can get you fired like nothing else. We combed through the best of the best and put together the five best speeches in sports movie history. Disagree? Hit us up on Twitter or Facebook and tell us what we left out.

5. Little Giants

The scrappy Little League football team led by Danny O'Shea (Rick Moranis) takes on a more polished, professional group coached by his older brother, Kevin O'Shea (Ed O'Neill). Hilarity ensues, but there's a moment in the Giants locker room for the underdog in all of us.

4. Remember the Titans

It's still tough to turn off Remember the Titans whenever its on TV, because it's a timeless sports movie classic. This isn't the Gettysburg speech, where Coach Boone (Denzel Washington) makes the team run through the woods to bond. This is shorter, but better: "You make sure that they remember, forever, the night they played the Titans."

3. Mighty Ducks 2

The original Mighty Ducks was good, but Mighty Ducks 2? Now we're talking. One question: How are they allowed to change their logo and uniform during a game? Seems like a scandal that needs to be investigated. Either way, ducks fly together.

2. Miracle

Kurt Russell (playing Herb Brooks) delivers the pre-game speech that inspires Team USA before their epic win over Russia in the 1980 Gold Medal game.

1. Any Given Sunday

This is as good as it gets. Al Pacino's "Inches" speech is one of the best sports movie moments ever! The star-studded cast features LL Cool J, Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz, but this speech steals the show. (Contains some profanity)
