September 14, 2012 | Jeff Dickinson
It seems the world of video gaming is changing almost daily. And on Nov. 18, that world will change once again, as Nintendo unleashes the long-awaited Wii U console. One of Wii U's most exciting new features is the touch-screen controller, called the GamePad. (Check out the features of this killer new controller here: Nintendo Wii U: What to Expect.)
Although the Wii U is compatible with many current Wii games, Nintendo plans on releasing Super Mario Bros. U exclusively for the GamePad. The game promises new characters and some brand new takes on Mario's world.
If you are interested in the entertainment value of the new console, Wii U is sure to deliver. In addition to the console's ability to stream Netflix, Hulu and Youtube, Nintendo packs more entertainment power into the system with its TVii feature. The TVii is Nintendo's effort to combine television, DVR and streamed videos in one comprehensive interface. This service comes at no extra charge, and makes TV time better than ever.
Although Nintendo plans to expand the number of games available for the new Wii system, there will be a limited number of games available when the system is first released..
Nintendo planned the Wii U release perfectly, as excited gamers will be sure to place this console on their holiday wish list! Priced somewhere between $300 and $350, the Wii U promises to be a great holiday gift. And if you're in the giving mood this holiday season, consider pairing the console with a game like Super Mario Bros. or Call of Duty Black Ops II—both available when the console is released.
