Steel cut oats have a heartier, thicker texture, which makes them chewier than the cupboard staple, old-fashioned rolled oats. A 1/4-cup serving of steel-cut oats contains four to five grams of fiber and also aids in reducing blood lipid levels. While primarily a carbohydrate food source, steel-cut oats also provide five to seven grams of protein per serving. (Try them out in Kait’s Meal of the Month: Overnight Oats.)
