Late last week, Nike unveiled its 2013 "Year of the Snake" Collection, inspired by both Chinese culture and NBA player Kobe Bryant.
The Kobe 8 System was released back in November. The new collection includes the shoe's special edition and its off-court version, the Nike Kobe 8 Red, which features a bold red body. Both shoes take their inspiration from Bryant's aggressive style of play.
The Kobe 8 Black, on the other hand, was designed exclusively for the collection. It is made of black leather and features snake prints across the body—paying tribute to Bryant's nickname, the Black Mamba.
Also in the collection is the Nike Air Force 1 Foamposite, which is predominantly black with a snake print. It features modern foamposite technology, which requires a metal casting mold to create the upper. Meanwhile, the Nike Zoom Huarache 2K4 is inspired by a more classic construction. The shoe features an ankle strap on the red upper, a purple-lined Swoosh on the side and the Huarache hollow-out design at the ankle.
The Air Force 1 CMFT is a welcome addition to the AF line. It retains a classic look with tech updates used to create the shoe. The shoe includes a slip-in Lunarlon cushioning midsole and a Nike Air unit in the heel. It and the AF 1 HI CMFT—its high-top counterpart—are easily the most colorful of the bunch. The AF 1 CMFT features red snake print leather with gold, red and purple outlining. The AF 1 HI CMFT is black python-printed leather. Extra attention was paid to the shoe's Swoosh, which features red and purple snake print.
The Nike Destroyer Jacket completes the collection with snake scale patterns across the leather sleeves; Chinese characters across the back and right lapel; and the words "Year of the Black Mamba" on the wind-proof strip.
