In 1981, former St. John's University basketball standout and Cardozo High School alumnus Ron Naclerio took over as head coach of the Cardozo boy's basketball program. After 30 years in the position, Naclerio ranks among the winningest high school basketball coaches of all time with more than 600 career wins.
