Doctor Who

On March 30, the BBC television sci-fi dynasty Doctor Who will return for the second part of its seventh season. (Remember when Doctor Who kicked off Season 7?) Since the show's debut in 1963, ten actors have portrayed the alien Doctor. This season, fans welcome back Matt Smith as the reigning hero. And, since the show is celebrating its 50th year, executive producer and main writer Steven Moffat has promised a bunch of new characters and surprises for the end of the current season.

Since 2010, Smith has brought the Doctor to life on television screens throughout the UK. Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill left their roles as the alien's companions from Gallifrey in the fifth episode of the season. The Doctor's new companion is played by Jenna-Louise Coleman, who appeared in the season premiere before acting as expected in the show's Christmas special, "The Snowmen."

In the seventh season's second part premiere, "The Bells of St John," Moffat will reunite the Eleventh Doctor and Clara Oswald after a dramatic Christmas special ending. According to the BBC website, the last Timelord adventure will be set in London against the backdrop of iconic landmarks, The Shard and Westminster Bridge. "The Bells of St John" will also introduce a new arch enemy, the Spoonheads, who will battle the Doctor as he discovers something sinister lurking in the Wi-Fi.

Not a whovian yet? Or perhaps you didn't see the Christmas special? Catch up on past Doctor Who seasons on Netflix Instant.
