In announcing his decision to return for the 2013 NFL season, TE Tony Gonzalez acted on the same advice he offered during a STACK interview back in 2009, right after he was traded to the Atlanta Falcons.
"You shouldn't look ahead," Gonzalez said. "If you look ahead, you're gonna miss now. And you don't want to miss it, because it's some of the funnest times of your life."
Regarding the decision to postpone his retirement, Gonzalez told Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, "I was done, I thought I had my mind made up. This whole year I knew it would be my last, but the way our final game ended and talking to the guys in the locker room, in the end it was too difficult a way for me to step away from the game."
Not to say Gonzalez was looking ahead to his retirement. The 15-year veteran had his best season in 2012 since joining the Falcons, catching 93 passes for 930 yards and eight TDs.
Maybe it was his 2012 Pro Bowl stats or the disappointing end to the season. Whatever the reason he changed his mind, we're happy that Gonzo is back for more of the "now."
