Have a Blast in the Past With 'Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14'

Must See Entertainment and Style Videos

The NBA 2K series lets you run the floor as Jerry West with the 1960s-era Lakers. Madden games allow you to replay past Super Bowls. Many other sports video games offer users a chance  to time-travel. But the latest release in the Tiger Woods golf series may outdo them all.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 lets you travel back as far as the 1800s, when golfers wore silly hats and frilly pants and carried bags full of niblicks and mashies. (Seriously, that’s what clubs used to be called.)

The game’s “Legends of the Majors” mode takes you through six different eras of golf, each with 10 to 15 challenges you must complete. Golf buffs will love having the chance to recreate legendary shots like Arnold Palmer’s birdie on 13, which set up his first Masters win in 1958. But the mode can help all players hone their abilities. Without fancy golf technology (goodbye ultralight titanium driver, hello heavy wooden brassie), players can’t crush 350-yard drives. They must rely on finesse and accuracy.

Like it does in other sports games, “Legends” mode lets you rewrite history. Tee off in the first-ever Masters in 1934. If you thought Craig Wood got robbed when he lost by one stroke to Horton Smith, here’s your chance to get Wood that green jacket.

“Legends of the Majors” is only one of many new features packed into Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14. All four majors are now playable (last year’s version contained only The Masters), allowing you to attempt to capture that elusive Grand Slam.

And if you’re tied with your fairway foe at the end of 72 holes, no need to pull your hair out and scream profanities. The game has finally implemented a playoff system, one that mimics the way playoffs are conducted at each tournament.

Finally, though previous versions of the game allowed you to play single tournaments as female golfers, PGA Tour 14 lets you launch a full career in the LPGA.

From current players to legends you grew up hearing about, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 keeps you occupied no matter when you want to play.
