Rap is usually pretty quiet around the beginning of the year, but as the temperatures warm up, the releases start coming. A couple of weeks ago, Lil Wayne dropped his tenth solo album, I Am Not A Human Being II, and last week Tyler the Creator released his third album, Wolf. This week, we get treated to projects from Tyga and Rich Boy.
Tyga, Hotel California
Hotel California, Tyga's third solo album, is a follow-up to his 2012 major label debut, Careless World: Rise of the Last King. Though arriving with far less fanfare than its predecessor, the LP will not disappoint dedicated fans of the California-bred rapper. However, it's unlikely to gain Tyga new fans; the Young Money rapper appears to have found his niche and made himself comfortable. He doesn't stray from his formula, and the rewards are few. For the project, Tyga collaborated with Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Jadakiss, Wiz Khalifa, Chris Brown and Future, among others.
Rich Boy, Break the Pot
Free from the confines of a major label contract, Rich Boy has returned to his roots to remind fans of his hit-making prowess. We don't yet know if this album features a ready-made anthem like "Throw Some D's," but the Alabama-bred rapper told HipHopDX that he was looking to expand his sound. "Something different happens every day in the world. That's the view I run with as an artist, and it's reflected in the type of music I put out," he said. Check out the title track in the video below.
