'Jurassic Park 4' Postponed For Reworking

Universal has officially placed Jurassic Park 4 on hold to get re-tooled. In a statement, the studio explained they made the decision so they could get the film right: "Universal has decided to release Jurassic Park 4 at a later date, giving the studio and filmmakers adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth installment in Universal's beloved franchise."

The script is reportedly at the root of the problem. It was penned by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the duo behind the successful Planet of the Apes reboot in 2011. But there are whispers that the studio's desire to include more flashy effects in the movie is also to blame. JP4 had been slated for a June 2014 release date. We no longer have a specific date for the film's debut.

It is still being produced by Patrick Crowley and Frank Marshall. Both had a hand in the Matt Damon Bourne trilogy. The dinosaur flick will be directed by Colin Trevorrow, who is known primarily for his 2012 cult hit, Safety Not Guaranteed. Variety reported that his contract for JP4 included a provision giving him the right to review the script with writing partner Derek Connolly.

With such a stellar group working in the background, it's hard not to be concerned about Universal's inability to get it off the ground. But considering that the project was already moving on a pressed schedule, this could be simply an inevitable delay as the studio moves to a more realistic schedule.
