The first trailer for the forthcoming TV adaptation of the Coen Brothers' 1996 classic Fargo debuted last week. Check it out at the bottom of this post.

Joel and Ethan Coen are executive producers of the FX limited series, which will serve as a sequel to the film, picking up a day after the film's ending. Instead of William H. Macy and Steve Buscemi, we have Martin Freeman and Billy Bob Thornton. In place of Frances McDormand we have Allison Tolman. Also starring are Colin Hanks, Kate Walsh, Adam Goldberg, Glenn Howerton and Bob Odenkirk.

"[It's] kind of in the same universe [as the film] without being literally the same story, with echoes of the film that we know and many people love, me included," said Freeman to Guardian. "It's not just a retelling of the story, because it's 10 hours of TV, so it's going to be a wider spectrum."

The plot follows Lester Nygaard (Freeman), a small-town insurance salesman, who enlists the help of Lorne Malvo (Thornton) to help handle a bully. The supporting cast of townsfolk serve up a healthy dose of 'nice.' Tolman's ambitious deputy, Molly Solverson, who seeks solutions to the various crimes committed in the town, has her hands full with the "Fargo Crime Syndicate." Widow Gina Hess (Walsh), a one-time stripper raising teenagers, attempts to come to terms with her husband's death, and police deputy and single father Gus Grimly (Hanks) battles his fear of dying.

Fargo begins its 10-episode run April 15. According to reports, if it's picked up for a second season, it will feature an entirely new cast and premise.
