Tornado Flick ‘Into the Storm’ Coming This Summer
The found-footage natural disaster film Into the Storm follows a group of storm chasers as they run down the storm of their lives. Sarah Wayne Callies (The Walking Dead) plays a meteorologist who teams up with a storm chaser (Ted‘s Matt Walsh) to document an onslaught of tornadoes hitting a small Oklahoma town. The story is told through found footage from the storm chasers and residents.
Callies recently admitted to USA TODAY that she would love to do a project where she doesn’t almost die. However, she said she chose Into the Storm because “I’m drawn to stories about survival. They are so primal. You get into human behavior and really elemental things.”
The film was helmed by Final Destination 5 director Steven Quale and written by John Swetnam, who recently penned Step Up: All In. It also stars Richard Armitage (The Hobbit Trilogy) and Jeremy Sumpter (Friday Night Lights).
Check it out in 2D and IMAX theaters Aug. 8.
