‘Prometheus 2’ Will Feature ‘Fresh’ Monster
During a recent interview for his upcoming film Exodus: Gods and Kings, director Ridley Scott revealed that the sequel to Prometheus will introduce a new species of alien.
“[The sequel is] fresh,” he said. “[It’s] getting away from gods and dragons and s***. If I see one more dragon, I’m going to shoot myself. Stop the dragons.” He added, “What I’m trying to do is reintroduce a fresher form of alien in the third act.”
Scott admitted the “baby” alien introduced in the first installment was remarkably similar to his 1979 creation, the monster that hunted Sigourney Weaver and crew, and that it fueled his desire to expand and hopefully move away from that beast. “[The original Alien was] the definitive dragon and he’s a mother. The alien’s real, which is why it’s probably one of the scariest monsters in film history.”
On the surface, change would seem to answer fans’ prayers, but it does raise the question, how will the new alien form be introduced. Will the sequel completely diverge from the first film? Will all of the mythology rhetoric from the first film be abandoned or will it be reimagined for the sequel?
Released in June 2012, Prometheus brought in more than $400 million at the box office. The sequel will feature returning stars Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender as archaeologist Elizabeth Shaw and android David, respectively. It is expected to hit theaters on March 4, 2016.
