Jon Hamm Set to Star in ‘High Wire Act’
Jon Hamm has signed on to star in the big screen political action thriller High Wire Act, written by Tony Gilroy (The Bourne Identity film franchise). Hamm takes on the role of a former U.S. diplomat in 1980’s war-torn Beirut, who returns to service to save a former colleague from a group that might be responsible for the death of his own family.
Directing the film for Radar Pictures is Brad Anderson, known for the 2013 Halle Berry thriller The Call.
Gilroy expressed his enthusiasm for the movie, saying, “I’m thrilled the way the project’s come together. Jon Hamm was made to play the part.” The Pulitzer Prize-winning dramatist and screenwriter also mentioned how eager he has been to work with Anderson, since seeing the filmmaker’s 2008 mystery feature Transsiberian.
Anderson said, “Tony may have been channeling John le Carré when he wrote this, and as such it has many of the themes I love that make those stories so great—the political intrigue, the betrayals, the morally compromised characters, the reluctant heroes. And it’s set in a world—war-torn Beirut—that’s seldom depicted on screen.”
Following his massive success portraying Don Draper in the long-running AMC drama Mad Men, Hamm is filming the new TV comedy series Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, as well as the Gal Gadot/Zach Galifianakis feature film Keeping Up with the Joneses, in theaters April 1, 2016.
