adidas Rolls Out 2012 Custom NBA Christmas Jerseys
To commemorate 65 years of Christmas Day basketball games, NBA teams will sport custom adidas jerseys this Dec. 25. (For all things adidas, check out STACK’s adidas page.) Billed as “BIG Color” jerseys, the holiday uniforms will be worn by the Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat and New York Knicks.
Each team’s custom jersey features one bold color, with accents. “We worked with adidas to amplify our long-standing tradition of playing on Christmas Day,” said NBA Executive Vice President of Global Merchandising Sal LaRocca. “BIG Color gives our players an enhanced look on the court and highlights one of the most visible dates during our season with a new and exciting range of products.”
Last year, 35 million people watched the Christmas Day games—the greatest number of viewers in the last 10 years. Last season’s numbers were especially high because the date marked the end of the NBA lockout. Games on this Christmas Day are also expected to reach a large audience.
ABC will broadcast an afternoon doubleheader: New York Knicks at Los Angeles Lakers at 3 p.m. and, for a replay of last year’s NBA Finals, Oklahoma City Thunder at Miami Heat at 5:30 p.m. ESPN will broadcast three games: Boston Celtics at Brooklyn Nets at noon, Houston Rockets at Chicago Bulls at 8 p.m. and Denver Nuggets at Los Angeles Clippers at 10:30 p.m.

The Christmas Day jerseys went on sale to fans early last week. The holiday line, available for all 30 teams (even though only 10 are playing), includes warm-up jackets and shooting shirts. Adult jerseys retail for $89.99 and youth versions for $59.99.
