Alex Ovechkin's Parents' Reaction to his 500th Goal Proves Sports Parents Are the Best

On Sunday, Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin scored his 500th goal.

That's a big deal, made even bigger because he became the fifth-fastest player to hit the milestone, behind only Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Mike Bossy and Brett Hull. That's elite company.

Ovechkin's parents, Tatyana and Mikhail, were in the stands, hoping to see their son's accomplishment in person. When it finally happened, they could not contain their emotions. They don't sit together during games, a tradition that began because Tatyana prefers to be left alone whereas Mikhail enjoys being immersed in the crowd. But both reverted back to the proud parents they've always been watching their son skate around on the ice.

Tatyana cried. Mikhail videotaped the moment with his iPhone. It's not hard to imagine both recalling the days when they drove their son to and from hockey practice, sometimes three times a day.

What a cool moment—for Ovechkin himself, but especially for his parents, who have been with him the entire way.
