“Jurassic Park IV” Coming in 2014
According to Cinema Blend, Universal Pictures is moving forward with plans to release a fourth installment of the Jurassic Park series.
The movie studio wants the 3D film to hit theaters June 13, 2014. Steven Spielberg will produce the project, alongside Frank Marshall. At this time, a director has not been named. Screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, who worked on 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, have already penned the script, but the proposed plot has not been revealed, so fans are free to speculate.
It isn’t surprising that Universal is moving to reboot the franchise, which is based on the popular Michael Crichton novel. The three prior installments have grossed nearly $2 billion. The first film alone earned $900 million; Lost World brought in over $600 million; and JP III took in just under $400 million at the box office worldwide.
To celebrate the upcoming 20th anniversary of the first Jurassic Park, Universal will re-release a 3D version of the science fiction adventure flick starting on April 5, for one week only.
If all of the proposed schedules hold, the summer of 2014 will be a busy one. Several sequels and launches are slated for next year, including installments in the Transformers, X-Men, Hobbit, Spider-Man, Captain America, How to Train Your Dragon and Planet of the Apes series, in addition to a Godzilla remake and the Ninja Turtles reboot.
