Jon Hamm is on the hunt for a baseball phenom in the new trailer for Million Dollar Arm.
As down-and-out sports agent J.B Bernstein, Hamm travels to India in hopes of discovering cricket players who have the potential to make it in the major leagues. Finding two boys (played by Madhur Mittal and Suraj Sharma) who have the talent to go far, he brings them to America and preps them for tryouts. What happens along the way is a coming-of-age story with lots of heart as Bernstein makes changes in his personal life to accommodate the boys. It's a Disney flick, so expect a feel-good vibe and lighthearted fun.
This sports film is based on a true story. Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel actually placed as winner and runner-up in the Indian reality show "Million Dollar Arm," and they earned spots in the minor leagues for the Pittsburgh Pirates organization in 2008. Patel has since left, but Singh is still with the team.
Bill Paxton and Alan Arkin also appear in the film as colleagues of Bernstein, helping him train and prep the boys. Million Dollar Arm is directed by Craig Gillespie, best known for his 2007 film, Lars and the Real Girl. ESPN's Bill Simmons and Connor Schell are executive producers. They last collaborated on ESPN Films' 30 for 30 documentary series.
Million Dollar Arm will be released May 16.
