NCAA Quiet Period Opens Today
Today, the first of September, marks the beginning of the NCAA Quiet Period for prospective collegiate basketball, baseball and football athletes.
During the Quiet Period, a college coach may have no in-person contact with an athlete and his family away from the school's campus, nor may he watch the athlete in a game or visit his high school. Phone calls and letters are, however, permitted, and a student-athlete is permitted to visit a college campus during this time.
Note that the end of the Quiet Period varies for each sport:
- Men's Basketball: Sept. 8
- Women's Basketball: Sept. 15
- Baseball: Sept. 9
Since football is a fall sport, college coaches are allowed 42 evaluation days during the months of September, October and November, with only one visit per athlete.
The Contact Period resumes once the Quiet Period has ended.
