Electronic Arts has announced plans to release NHL 14 on Sept. 10 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The highly anticipated sports series will introduce new features and updates to technology in an effort an add more excitement and realistic action.
"We're very proud of the history of innovation that the EA Sports NHL franchise has produced on this console generation, and this year we're amplifying that innovation by leveraging technology from teams like FIFA and Fright Night," said Dean Richards, General Manager, NHL, EA Sports. "This year fans will feel the speed, skill and aggression of NHL Hockey like never before—powered by some of the best EA Sports technology to create the best game we could ever imagine."
Gamers will experience "bigger, more thrilling" hits and collisions courtesy of "NHL Collision Physics," built from the same technology that pushes FIFA's "Player Impact Engine." And third-person on-ice fights will be more realistic than ever, because each player's size and weight will be taken into account via the "Enforcer Engine," based on technology from Fight Night.
"True Performance Skating," in its second year in the franchise, will facilitate better acceleration, improved lateral skating, faster pivots and explosive first-strides to give players more responsiveness and control. And improvements to "One-Touch Dekes" will result in faster reactive dekes and "intuitive combination dekes," giving gamers access to more moves than ever.
Also returning are the "Hockey Ultimate Team" and EA Sports Hockey League fantasy team modes. Both give players a chance to win games, advance through divisions and track their progress through multiple seasons.
New to the game is the "Live the Life" mode, which will allow gamers to experience the everyday life of a NHL player on and off the ice, highlighting decisions that will affect your relationship with fans, teammates and upper management, which in turn impacts your skills and progression in the NHL.
Starting on April 22, fans can start voting on who they want to grace the cover of NHL 14 (vote on the cover!). This is the second year that fans have had a say in the cover. Last year 25 million cast votes, and the Philadelphia Flyers' Claude Giroux was featured on the cover.
