Peyton Manning's Secret Weapon for Super Bowl XLVIII

The hype leading up to the Super Bowl creates a unique environment for players, but Peyton Manning's pre-game meal remains the same regardless of the situation.

As Peyton Manning and his Denver Bronco teammates make the trip to New York for Super Bowl XLVIII, their sense of normalcy will cease to exist. Their daily routines will be shattered by the massive media circus known as Super Bowl Week. Peyton will be interviewed several dozen times as he is whisked between his hotel, practices and media locations. Workouts, treatment and meetings will be scheduled at unusual times to accommodate the week's extraneous activities and unfamiliar facilities. Throw in the usual distractions that the Big Apple and New Jersey have to offer, and you have yourself a less-than-ideal environment for maintaining focus and successful habits leading up to a game.

In the midst of all this, Manning will make sure one thing remains consistent. No matter what city he wakes up in, what time the game starts or who he is facing, the future Hall of Famer eats the same meal before every game. Super Bowl XLVIII will be no different.

"It's always two pieces of grilled chicken, a bowl of pasta with marinara sauce, a plain baked potato with a side of broccoli and a couple of Gatorades," he says.

Manning won't return to pasta and potatoes on Super Bowl Sunday out of superstition or because he likes the taste. He knows the carbohydrates in those foods will serve as his primary source of energy once he takes the field against the daunting Seattle Seahawks defense. The routine has worked in the past for the All-Pro QB, and there's no reason to change things up now.
