Chocolate lovers may joke about the food's heavenly taste, but they're not actually far off. Raw cacao comes from the theobroma cacao tree, which translates to "food of the gods." Used to make chocolate, cacao in a raw state contains the most concentrated source of antioxidants found in any food. (7) Cacao also contains phenylethylamine, a mood-boosting neurotransmitter. This could explain the "high" you get from eating a good piece of chocolate. (8) Raw cacao contains even higher amounts of phenylethylamine. Studies have found that raw cacao could potentially help improve circulation, regular heartbeat and blood pressure.
