For a long time, Marquise Goodwin was labeled as a track guy playing football.

Skeptics may have to re-think that critique, however, as the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver totaled nearly 1,000 receiving yards in 2017.

As a student at Rowlett (Texas) High School, Goodwin won seven Texas Class 5A state track and field championships.

At the University of Texas, Goodwin competed in both football and track. He was a two-time NCAA champion in the long jump. On the football field, he totaled 120 career receptions.

Goodwin competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics in the long jump, finishing in 10th place.

At the 2013 NFL Combine, Goodwin clocked an absurd 4.27 40-Yard Dash. He also posted an impressive 42-inch Vertical Jump.

He was drafted in the third round by the Buffalo Bills. Goodwin had an up-and-down four years in Buffalo, never surpassing 431 receiving yards in a season.

In March of 2017, he signed a two-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers. Goodwin went on to have the best season of his career, hauling in 56 receptions for 962 receiving yards. His 17.2 yards per catch ranked third among qualified players.

That performance led San Francisco to extend Goodwin's contract through the 2021 season.

"I think his ceiling is extremely high. He has the speed that scares people. He can break down very well. His hands are much better than people realize. He's a tough guy who's not scared to compete and go over the middle," 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said of Goodwin during a December press conference.
