Parkview High School (Lilburn, Georgia) baseball player Joey DeMasi is having an incredible senior season. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound shortstop is second in the nation in home runs. But DeMasi wasn't always the slugger he is today.
As a junior, DeMasi had a subpar batting average of .190. According to MaxPreps, in 27 games he had 63 at bats, only 12 hits, 11 RBIs and two home runs. That's is not the kind of season an ambitious baseball player wants to have going into his senior year.
But in DeMasi's final season, he has already surpassed last year's effort. In just 18 games, he has 21 hits, 29 RBIs, a batting average of .356, eight home runs and two grand slams. Hitting as many grand slams this year as home runs last year isn't a bad improvement.
DeMasi has also hit two home runs in one game—twice. He's ranked 13th in the nation and fourth in the state of Georgia.
