About the Video
Detroit Tigers strength coach Javair Gillet has Justin Verlander perform a Squat progression designed to improve lower body strength muscle endurance---critical skills for pitchers. Gillet explains how you can implement this progression into your athletes' Squat routine to help them drive off the mound more powerfully.
Goal: To increase your athlete's lower body, core and low back strength through a multi-joint and functional exercise to improve throwing power. Also, the progression is designed to improve muscle endurance so pitchers can resist fatigue from a repetitive and powerful throwing motion.
Coaching Points: - Conserve energy early on to get max effort in later sets - Squat until thighs are parallel to ground - Add superset of 10 reps at end for endurance
Sets/Reps: 1x10, 4x6, 1x10 with no rest
