About the Video
Detroit Tigers strength coach Javair Gillet has Justin Verlander perform a Squat progression designed to improve lower body strength muscle endurance---critical skills for pitchers. Gillet explains how you can implement this progression into your athletes' Squat routine to help them drive off the mound more powerfully.
To increase your athlete's lower body, core and low back strength through a multi-joint and functional exercise to improve throwing power. Also, the progression is designed to improve muscle endurance so pitchers can resist fatigue from a repetitive and powerful throwing motion.
- Conserve energy early on to get max effort in later sets
- Squat until thighs are parallel to ground
- Add superset of 10 reps at end for endurance
