In this football training video, Peyton Manning performs the Dumbbell Bench Press with coaching by Will Bartholomew. Peyton Manning uses the training exercise to gain strength for football.
In this football training video, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning demonstrates the Dumbbell Bench Press with Will Bartholomew, owner of D1 Sports Training.
Goal: Develop strength in chest and arms. While the Dumbbell Bench Press works chest muscles like a traditional bench press, it provides an additional benefit for quarterbacks, since it strengthens each arm individually. Because Peyton Manning is dominant with his right arm, he uses the Dumbbell Bench Press to keep his left arm developing at the same rate.
Steps: Pick up dumbbells and place them on knees
Sit back and bring dumbbells right above armpits
Press up, bringing dumbbells together without clanking them
Bring weights down slowly with proper technique
Lower dumbbells to pecs, then press back up
Repetition: Three sets of eight to ten reps each. Continue until chest is sore.
Common Mistakes: Bringing dumbbells down or pushing them up too fast, allowing the weights' momentum to cause poor form.
