Derrick Rose takes a break from his adidas shoot to talk to STACK about his growth from high school to NBA MVP.
No "I" in TeamIn high school, Rose says his goal was sometimes just to make the team. To become the best player on the court, Rose dedicated himself to the gym. "I remember graduating and my friends went out to eat. I went to work out," Rose says.
Finding MotivationRose is motivated by his mom. "My mom motivates me by just being herself. She's a strong woman [who] raised four boys by herself. She's been through a lot." On the court, Rose finds inspiration from both the fans and the competition.
Staying Positive"I stay positive by having positive people around me," Rose says. Rose credits his positive energy for giving him confidence on the court and helping him take his game to the next level.
Training EvolutionEvery summer, Rose works on adding something to his game. This year, he plans on adding more weight training to get bigger and stronger. He's also working on his post-up and isolation game.
Anything is Possible"I think setting goals helped me out a lot. I put them as high as possible. I know some people look at me crazy, but to me, anything is possible," Rose says. "You have to sacrifice a lot, and you have to dedicate yourself to whatever you're doing."
