Jason Mccourty: This drill is just totally beneficial for the fact that when we're out there during the game, we're backpedaling; all we know is the situation might be first and ten. I don't know if the receiver's going to take me left, take me right, go deep, so a drill like this is all reaction. That's what we do all day.
Devin Mccourty: It's a funny drill because it's just essentially you put four cones, you can do it a couple of different ways, but right here it's more just doing it kind of like as a defensive back reaction to the cones. It works our reaction and agility
. You can also start in the middle and buzz your feet and then you call out a call so you take away the back pedaling. I like doing it this way because it ads that extra back pedaling and breaking forward like a defensive back does.
Jason: It's everything you do in the game man.
Devin: For this drill you just want to stay low and kind of take away the anticipation. As defensive back it's big for us to anticipate plays, try to get a feel for routes but here you just want to use what you hear and then eyes. So don't want to start back pedaling like he said sometimes you'll guess and think you know what's coming but that throws off the drill.
This is not a game, this drill, this is what will happen in the game so you want to take away all the thinking and just react. So stay low and once you hear the number you want to explode and snap your vision to that cone.
