In the third episode of STACK's Behind the Highlights
video series, three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings breaks down the last play of the 2008 Olympic beach volleyball final, during which Misty May-Treanor set the ball before Kerri spiked it for the victory.
Kerri also discusses her pre-match fueling strategy that included intense hydration as well as a pasta dinner the night before competition. When Kerri awoke the next morning, the Beijing heat had been replaced by a downpour, which created a difficult playing environment. To combat this, Kerri fueled up that morning with oatmeal, pancakes, Gatorade and other carbohydrate-rich foods so that she had the energy she needed to power through the wet sand and long match.
Make sure to check out Kerri's Daily Fueling Schedule to see how she eats before and after workouts to ensure that she is able to sustain her high level of training before big matches.
