Mike Green, All-Star defenseman for the Washington Capitals, demonstrates how to properly perform Sled Pushes to develop lower-body strength, power and endurance for faster skating all game long on the ice.
Doug Crashley, president of Crash Conditioning, has Mike load up the sled with 220+ pounds and then has him sprint explosively while driving the sled across the turf for the specified distance. Mike rests for about 45 seconds and repeats the exercise back to the start.
The exercise is great for hockey players because it strengthens the key skating muscles: the hips, glutes, hamstrings and quads.
