About the Video
The football team at East Brunswick High School follows an extensive off-season strength and conditioning program, since being in peak shape is imperative for players as they enter two-a-day sessions. Helping the athletes at East Brunswick prepare for these grueling workouts is Phil Hossler, a certified athletic trainer with more than 30 years of experience. Before the start of the season, Hossler conducts informational sessions for student-athletes to teach them about important safety practices to ensure that the athletes are healthy and performing to their full ability through the season. One of the most important topics Hossler teaches is the role of hydration and recovery. Hossler advises that practices and games are divided into three parts: the before, during and after. Hossler stresses the importance of proper recovery, because what an athlete does after practice or games affects the rest of their performance the next day and beyond. Which is why Hossler advises consuming low-fat chocolate milk as a recovery drink. Low-fat chocolate milk contains protein and carbohydrates, which help repair damaged muscle and refuel the body. Chocolate milk is also a good source of elecrolytes, which athletes need to replace after activity.
