MLS star Brek Shea demonstrates how he performs Resisted Knee Drives as part of his soccer strength workout. He begins in a Push-Up position on a bench with a cable attached to one of his feet. He drives that knee up to his chest, holds the position and then returns to the start position. During the exercise, he keeps his core tight and body in a straight line.
This movement strengthens Brek's core muscles as well as his quads, glutes and hip flexors, which are the key kicking muscles for a soccer player. Once he takes the field, Brek is able to add much more power and speed to his shots as a result of this exercise.
Watch Brek put his explosive shot velocity on display in our Behind the Highlights
video series as he breaks down his clutch, game-winning goal from more than 20 yards out against Toronto.
