Scott Mackar: We're here in Novi Michigan at the Sports Club of Novi where NHL star Shawn Horcoff is going to go through some off-season endurance circuit training before camp starts here in about two weeks. So let's head on in and see what he's up to.
Shawn Horcoff: At the start of the summer we always go through a training phase and they consist of 10, 12 exercises. From there my trainer will find out my times and where they reflect to other NHL players that he trains and even to myself in prior years. And even from that we'll find out either where I'm slower or a little bit weaker.
We're starting to get close to training camp here where its three weeks away and I'm really trying to get into the endurance phase of my summer training now where I'm doing a lot of high reps and I'm really limiting the rest in between exercises; frankly where there's not that much rest at all. I'm trying to go from one, to the other, to the other. And in doing that, I'm able to
build some endurance into my muscles and also endurance into my lungs, my aerobic system.
So it's at a point right now where the next three weeks that's what I'll be doing. I think when you see on the website, on the video, you're going to be able to see that it's really specific to hockey. Nowadays it's really become a science and you really try to focus in on your individual weaknesses and strengths and try to get better in all aspects.
