Behind the Highlights: Misty May-Treanor Battles the Brazilian Heat

Three-time Olympic beach volleyball gold medalist Misty May-Treanor explains how she battled through intense heat during the 2011 Brasilia Open upon returning from injury.

In the sixth episode of STACK's Behind the Highlights video series, three-time Olympic gold medalist Misty May-Treanor breaks down the 2011 Brasilia Open, the first tournament of the beach volleyballl season and one of the hottest, most grueling competitions around. Misty explains how she had to begin hydrating days before even traveling to Brazil to make it through the tournament. Despite sweating constantly during the competition, Misty was able to perform at her best and battle deep into the tournmant despite having just come back from months of inactivity because of injury. By making sure that she was properly hydrated with fluids and electrolytes, Misty avoided some of the cramping and dehydration headache issues that other players experienced.
