The Evan Longoria Workout

May 20, 2010

Spring training is no vacation for All-Star third baseman Evan Longoria, who invites STACK to check out his strength and on-field workout at the Tampa Bay Rays' spring home in Port Charlotte, Fla.

The Evan Longoria Workout
Longoria's workout philosophy transformed from a high school athlete's desire to bulk up and gain muscle mass into a sophisticated sports-specific mindset focused on gaining lean muscle and flexibility.
Focusing on a sports-specific training regimen, Longoria focuses on strengthening his core and lower body in order to generate as much power as possible on the field. During his training, he spends time preparing his hamstrings, glutes and lower back to not only enhance his lower body power, but also to reduce his risk of injury. Building lean muscle, staying flexible, and improving speed and agility are key components to his workout.
Check out, Evan Longoria's Core Workout.
During his on-field baseball workout, Longoria focuses on each grounder with the same concentration he would give during a game time situation. Feeling the dirt under his feet, and the ball in his glove, Longoria practices like he plays.
Before wrapping up his time with STACK and heading back to practice, he leaves us some parting advice: "Don't give up. There is no substitute for hard work and dedication."
