One of Coach Vanessa's biggest pet peeves is that knee sleeves are the be-all-end-all.

"Knee sleeves should not be considered cool; stretching and improving form should be," she says.

Though many CrossFit athletes swear they cannot lift heavy without their sleeves, they don't come without their drawbacks.

Knee sleeves may help you lift heavier today, but they can be a hindrance to the long-term health of the knee.

What causes you to feel like you need to wear knee sleeves?

If it's because your knees are always achey due to poor form/body positioning, you should strive to address the root cause.

Best practice is to work on your hip and ankle mobility, as well as your glute activation.

This should almost guarantee an improvement in your form, which should enhance your lifts.

Best of all, no stinky sleeves to peel off after a hard WOD.
