Last week, 2 Chainz took to Twitter to announce plans for his upcoming sophomore solo album. He established the project’s shelf date—September 10—but failed to reveal the names of any collaborators. At this point, it’s unclear if 2 Chainz plans to release another mixtape ahead of the album. Mixtapes helped bring the Playaz Circle MC to the forefront after he went largely unnoticed on Ludacris’s DTP roster. (Don’t forget to check out Luda’s newest mixtape, #IDGAF!)
“Features on hault… New album on the way September tenth,” tweeted 2 Chainz.
Fans won’t have to wait until early fall to hear the rapper, however. He made recent guest appearances on several songs, including The Dream’s “Turnt” with Beyoncé, B.o.B’s “Headband” and the remix of Major Lazer’s “Bubble Butt,” with Tyga and Mystic. He’s also dabbled in acting, making appearances on television shows like the comedy 2 Broke Girls and the long-running drama Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
2 Chainz is also currently on the America’s Most Wanted tour with fellow southern rappers T.I. and Lil Wayne in place of Future, who backed out of the trek for reasons unknown.
In other news, 2 Chainz’s work on Based on a TRU Story has earned him eight BET award nominations—a feat topped only by Young Money’s Drake, who pulled in 12. He is up twice for Best Collaboration, one for his song “No Lie” and the other for his appearance on A$AP Rocky’s “Problems.” He is also nominated for Best Male Hip Hop Artist, Video of the Year and the Coca-Cola Viewers Choice Award.
