The Nike Football product team recently unveiled their latest performance gear for the gridiron, including the Nike Pro Combat System. In the exclusive video below, creative director Todd Van Horne shares an inside look and details the system’s innovations. Read on to learn about four key performance features.
The Pro Combat System tackles thermoregulation by providing superior breathability. Not only is the base layer made of Dri-Fit fabric to wick away moisture, it also features Chainmail Mesh, a venting system with flat-lock seams for added comfort and open pod structures for more airflow through the back, which, Van Horne says, “keep the core body temperature at a constant.”
Deflex Padding is also built into the system. This technology features two-way airflow to simultaneously wick away sweat and cool the body. The added protection is notable in the pant’s hip and knee areas. The pad’s placement on the pant and the base layer work together for optimal protection without adding bulk.
An Adjustable Carbon Fiber Plate, available in two sizes, is integrated into the thigh area of the base layer for ultimate lightweight protection. “It’s super thin, and super, super lightweight, but gives the protection that’s hard enough just like traditional padding, but without the bulk,” Van Horne says. It’s also designed with medical-grade Velcro, so the plate can be positioned anywhere on the pant, allowing you to “tune it to what your needs are.”
