Beyoncé Nominated for 8 MTV Video Music Awards
Nominees for the MTV Video Music Awards have been revealed. Beyoncé leads the pack with a total of eight nominations, and rappers Eminem and Iggy Azalea aren’t far behind with seven each.
Bey and Iggy will duke it out for Video of the Year for their singles “Drunk in Love” and “Fancy.” They’ll face stiff competition from Miley Cyrus (“Wrecking Ball”), Pharrell Williams (“Happy”), and Sia (“Chandlier”).
Eminem is up for Best Hip-Hop Video for “Berserk.” He’ll contend with Childish Gambino (“3005”), Drake (“Hold On”), Kanye West (“Black Skinhead”), and Wiz Khalifa (“We Dem Boyz”). He also received a Best Male Video nod for his single “The Monster” (with pop princess Rihanna), but he may find it hard to beat out Pharrell’s two appearances: once for “Sing,” his song with Ed Sheeran, and the other for “Happy.”
Best Female Video nominees include Ariana Grande (“Problem”), Beyoncé (“Partition”), Iggy Azalea (“Fancy”), Katy Perry (“Dark Horse”), and Lorde (“Royals”). Nominees for MTV’s Clubland Award are Calvin Harris (“Summer”), Disclosure (“Grab Her!”), DJ Snake & Lil Jon (“Turn Down For What”), Martin Garrix (“Animals”) and Zedd (“Stay the Night”).
The MTV Video Music Awards will air Sunday, Aug. 24 at 9 p.m. Thus far, the show will include performances from 5 Seconds of Summer, Usher and Aria Grande. More artists are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
