WATCH: 271-Pound Defensive Lineman Charles Tapper Breaks NFL Combine Record With a 4.59 40-Yard Dash
Measuring 6-foot-3 and 271 pounds, former Oklahoma defensive lineman Charles Tapper is a big dude.
For a prospect of his size, breaking the 5-second mark in the 40-Yard Dash is enough to turn heads. Tapper’s result was far more impressive:

For a guy weighing 271 pounds, a 4.59 40-Yard Dash is straight up ridiculous. Tapper’s time, later confirmed as official, marks the first time a player over 270 pounds has broken the 4.60-second mark since at least 2003.
Although the result was certainly surprising, those who’ve studied Tapper on film have seen flashes of his blistering speed. You can see him run down Amari Cooper from behind in the second play of this highlight video.
Cooper ran a 4.42-second 40-Yard Dash at the 2015 Combine, so he is not an easy guy to catch. At this year’s Combine, Tapper ended up clocking a faster time than 11 wide receivers.
