‘3001: The Final Odyssey’ TV Adaptation in the Works
A TV adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke’s novel 3001: The Final Odyssey is being developed as a miniseries by the Syfy channel. Clarke’s book Childhood’s End is also in preproduction as a limited series for Syfy.
The fourth volume in the Odyssey book series resolves the storyline of the original 2001: A Space Odyssey, which inspired the memorable Stanley Kubrick feature film. The latest installment starts with the discovery of Frank Poole’s frozen body as it floats through space. The miniseries is expected to be visually stunning and to feature complex characters from the book with conflicting agendas. The show will explore these characters as well as foretell the ultimate fate of the human race.
The script will be written by Stuart Beattie, best known for his work on the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise, as well as other high-profile action movies, including the upcoming Tarzan flick.
Legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott is on board as executive producer, along with David W. Zucker, via their company Scott Free Productions.
3001: The Final Odyssey is expected to premiere in 2017.
