Protein powder is a great way for athletes to get the protein they need to build and repair their muscles. The most common ways to use protein powder are out of a shaker or a blender, but that can get boring. STACK talked to sports dietician Leslie Bonci to find out more ways an athlete can consume protein powder.
1. Orange Juice
Mixing protein powder in your morning glass of orange juice can be a new way to get your daily protein. If you have vanilla protein powder, try putting it in your O.J. It will taste like a Creamsicle or an Orange Julius.
2. Peanut Buttera
Mix chocolate protein powder with your peanut butter for a taste like a Reese’s Cup—definitely better than a plain old protein drink. Mix the protein and peanut butter and spread it on some toast. It’s a great new way to get your protein.
Oatmeal is a terrific source of carbohydrates, but it lacks protein. Add some protein powder to your oatmeal and you’ll have an excellent carb/protein combo.
Another thing you can add protein powder to is pancake mix. Instead of plain pancakes, you will have high protein pancakes that taste great.
