If your starting stance is flawed, you will lose valuable time out of the gate, thus hurting your 40 time. Refine your three-point stance so you can put as much force as possible into the ground, directly impacting how fast you can accelerate.

40-Yard Dash Stance

  • Place lead foot four inches behind starting line and opposite foot one and a half to two feet behind starting line; align trailing knee with instep of lead foot
  • Position hand that is opposite lead leg on front of starting line
  • Slowly lift hips and balance weight on supporting arm; keep knees bent and arm straight
  • Raise off hand back and behind hip with elbow at 90-degree angle
  • Keep head down and eyes focused on front foot
