50 Cent’s Text Rant to Son Leaks Online

A heated text message exchange between rapper 50 Cent and his son, Marquise, found its way onto the Internet early last week. The argument reportedly started after Marquise didn’t answer the door when the G-Unit leader arrived outside the house that the teen shares with his mother, Shaniqua Tompkins. At one point, Fif even tells Marquise to delete his number. During the rant, the rapper texted, “I don’t have a son anymore…I will have nothing to do with you. Don’t text me ever again.” He also requested a paternity test.

On Twitter, 50 Cent insisted that the text messages attributed to Marquise were actually coming from Tompkins. “That was his mother texting me as him,” tweeted the music mogul. “She sold that to a website. She hate me for winning, it’s hard to replace me.”

But even so, it seems that the rapper’s relationship with his son has been damaged. He followed up his explanation by saying, “I rewrote my will today. Now when I pass away all my physical [property] and most of my money, [it will go] to charities and Tiffany Lighty, so when I’m done she can be 50 Cent.”

Drake Tops Rappers on Social Media Power List

A 12-month social media study conducted by Networked Insights has concluded that Young Money’s Drake is the rapper with the strongest presence and influence on social media websites. The Canadian MC sparked more than 46 million social conversations, nearly more than double that of runner-up Kanye West, who inspired nearly 25.5 million interactions. Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Jay-Z and 2 Chainz rounded out the top six.

Most of the conversations surrounding Drake involved his new music, while Kanye-centered talk spiked with the release of Yeezus and the birth of his daughter with Kim Kardashian. Jigga also found himself in the spotlight with the release of his latest album, and Lil Wayne was in the collective consciousness of the socially active during his medical scare earlier this year.

Nicki Minaj Nabs “Marie Claire” Cover; Talks Leaving Rap

Nicki Minaj graces the cover of Marie Claire’s August issue—a first for a rapper. In the spread, Minaj talks about her upcoming acting debut and future in rap.

“I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous. I can’t blow this,” said Minaj of her upcoming role in Nick Cassavetes’ The Other Woman.

She wants to commit to at least three more rap albums before diving deeper into the acting pool, but she isn’t ruling out any career path just yet. “If I can [release at least three more albums], I’ll feel complete,” she confessed. “One day, when I start getting a couple of gray hairs, maybe it will all be only acting. I just never know . . . I’ve kind of become the poster child for doing the things that no one expects.”
