Horse Racing Flick '50 to 1' Tells Compelling True Story

The upcoming movie '50 to 1' tells the story of 2009 Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird. Watch the trailer on STACK Gamer.

In the comedy/drama 50 to 1, based on the true story of racehorse Mine That Bird, a group of misfit cowboys from New Mexico become the ultimate underdogs when their crooked-footed horse qualifies for the Kentucky Derby. And their perilous journey to Churchill Downs, during which they face one mishap after another, is an adventure in itself. Will their hard work and struggles pay off when they compete against the elite of the Sport of Kings in the climactic final showdown?

The film stars Christian Kane, known for his portrayal of Elliot Spencer in the TV crime series Leverage; Skeet Ulrich (Law & Order: L.A.); William Devane (The Dark Knight Rises); Todd Lowe (True Blood); and newcomer Madelyn Deutch (Christmas Twister).

The film is directed by Jim Wilson, who is better known as a producer (Dances with Wolves and The Bodyguard). Wilson also co-wrote the screenplay for 50 to 1, collaborating with novice screenwriter Faith Conroy, who previously worked as a script supervisor on a number of major films.

Judging by the new trailer, this movie is an upbeat, feel-good story centering on friendship and the importance of taking chances to pursue your dreams. The synopsis seems reminiscent of 2010's Secretariat, but this is much more of a comedy, although there is plenty of substance and heart to go along with the humor.

50 to 1 gallops into theaters in limited release March 21.
